Job Opportunity: Ceramics Tutor for Stirling Council Culture Team


The Stirling Council Culture Team are looking to employ a freelance ceramics tutor to run classes for young people and adults from their Ceramics Studio situated in the Cowane Centre, Stirling.

 

The successful candidate will plan and lead activities that introduce ceramics to primary and secondary aged young people, and continue the development of our beginner and intermediate classes for adults. The sessions should develop skills and understanding of the medium, inspire creativity, and be ever evolving and responsive to participants in order to encourage long-term engagement with the activity, boosting confidence and self-esteem.

 

Working pattern is 4 sessions spread over 3 days, approx. 6.5 hours per week, weekday evenings and Saturdays during school term times. 3 blocks of 8 weeks annually. Additional paid time will be provided to carry out kiln firings. It’s hoped that the successful applicant will work with Culture Team staff to design and run additional ceramics opportunities during school holidays and as part of wider Stirling Council cultural events.

 

Additional duties include working with Culture Team staff to maintain a stock of materials for the classes, keep work areas tidy and safe, manage storage and adjust set up of the studio space, as well as upholding child protection and health and safety policies.

 

The successful applicant will be required to complete a PVG membership application or update for Stirling Council.

 

Rate of pay will be in line with Scottish Artists Union rates, currently:

£23.00 per hour for a new graduate artist.

£30.70 per hour for an artist with +3 years' experience.

£37.85 per hour for an artist with +5 years' experience.
