The Legend of the Unicorn
After dark, the city grows wild
In Stirling, the unicorn has always walked alongside the city: etched into stone, woven into glass, carved into wood, and carried through centuries of story. Forest of the Unicorn invites audiences into a place where legend and landscape meet.
This is the second chapter of Legends of Stirling.
For one night, Stirling becomes a forest. The streets turn to paths, the closes turn to thickets, and somewhere in the dark the unicorn is moving.
THE FOREST AWAKENS
Deep within the ancient wilds of Stirling lies a place where the ordinary gives way to wonder. Beneath a canopy of Scots pine, oak and silver birch, the unicorn roams freely, but it is not alone. Owls glide and watch, the Ghillie Dhu slips silently between the trees, and fairy folk gather amongst the moss.
For one night, the forest awakens. The unicorn returns to its woodland home, and all who enter become part of the legend.
The hunt
At Stirling Castle hangs a forest woven in thread. The Stirling Tapestries tell the story of the Hunt of the Unicorn, where hunters and hounds pursue the creature through woodland thick with flowers, fruit and hidden meaning. It is a story about desire and pursuit, and about the things we chase and can never quite hold.
The watchers
The unicorn never really left. Above the Mercat Cross in the Old Town, a unicorn keeps watch over markets, gatherings and late nights. At the National Wallace Monument, unicorns shine in stained glass. By day they are landmarks. By night they are guardians and witnesses, and your guides into the Forest.
A creature of the threshold
In folklore, the unicorn lives on the edge between worlds. It is fierce and untameable, and seen only by a lucky few. It cannot be caught by force, only glimpsed. Of all the animals of its hills and glens, Scotland chose a creature that exists only in story.

INSPIRING IDEAS
The unicorn can be many things
Guardian, sentinel, wild thing, symbol. It speaks of wonder, pursuit, rarity and the things we cannot quite hold.
Your take could be playful, poetic or strange, told through sound, light, storytelling, food, performance or digital media. You might explore:
The Forest: the place past the edge of the map, where the path gives out and the rules loosen.
The Hunt: desire, pursuit and the chase.
The Watchers: Stirling’s unicorns in stone and glass, guarding the city at night.
The Threshold: between worlds, between day and night, between the real and the imagined.
Folklore and myth: the Ghillie Dhu, fairy folk, owls and the old stories of the woods.
The weird and curious: odd rituals, strange creatures and things you may not be able to explain.
The theme is open and imaginative. There is room for every kind of unicorn.
