STIRLING CULTURAL STRATEGY CATALYST
CULTURE NIGHT
MAJOR EVENT SUPPORTING NIGHTTIME ECONOMY
What is this?
Culture Night is one of the six catalysts at the heart of the Stirling Cultural Strategy 2023–2028. Inspired by the European model that has proven popular across Ireland and the continent, it combines the spirit of a doors-open day with a dynamic, city-wide programme of events — all free to attend. Access and participation are central to its purpose.
The pilot was Stirling 900 — A Night of Culture at the Castle, part of Stirling's 900th anniversary celebrations. Building on that success, Culture Night is now an annual event with a new theme each year — in 2026, Carnival of the Wolf — featuring over 40 events across the city and area. A key aim is to encourage people to visit, stay late, and explore Stirling after dark, supporting the evening and night-time economy.
Our vision
A brilliant celebration of Stirling's diverse culture, showcasing all its assets.

Why this matters in Stirling
Over 100 organisations were involved in the preparation of Stirling's City of Culture Bid — demonstrating the extraordinary capacity for collaborative working that exists across the area. Culture Night is an opportunity to harness that energy every year, bringing the whole cultural sector together around a shared moment that is open to everyone, and has similarly galvanised many businesses, organisations and creatives to come together to create real scale.
This is an event about access for residents and profile for visitors. It raises Stirling's visibility as a place where culture is alive, valued, and genuinely for everyone — not just those who already engage with arts and culture regularly.
What are we working towards?
Culture Night contributes directly to the strategy's outcomes — increasing engagement with culture especially among those less likely to participate, developing new collaborative cultural offerings, and strengthening Stirling's national and international reputation. A particular focus is on growing Stirling's evening and night-time economy — bringing more people into the city centre and encouraging them to stay longer.
As the event grows year on year, we are building an evidence base to understand its impact: on audiences, on the cultural sector, and on how people experience Stirling as a creative place.
Key partners
Culture Night thrives on broad involvement. Alongside the cultural sector, key partners include local transport providers, hospitality and retail businesses, media, and the third sector. It is coordinated through Scene Stirling in partnership with Fiona McLean and a growing network of local cultural partners.
