Winter

Alongside this, a ‘Window Display’ craft activity pack, dseigned by Orla Stevens, was distributed in Western villages via the library bus service, encouraging people to get creative at home. Bring warmth and colour to your winter windows with this stained-glass inspired paper craft activity. Watch Orla’s video for detailed step-by-step instructions:

Winter, or the darker part of the year, can be a time for contemplation. Changes in nature such as light and temperature, might encourage us to slow down, rest and reflect.

Covid was an extended time of pause for many. Inspired by Winter’s invitation to slow down, Saffy collaborated with the Stirling Council library bus service as it visited West Stirlingshire villages, and with groups in Callander. She invited people into meditative conversations on the beauty and solace of Winter, nature connection, hope, and gratitude.

These conversations were recorded and blended with field recordings and specially composed soundpiece by Jamie McCarthy. The resulting work, Tracing Light in Darkness, was shared at a ‘Winter Coorie’ event in Callander.

You are invited to relax and enjoy listening to this immersive audio experience. The lenght of the full Tracing Light in Darkness sound piece is 39 minutes and we recommend listening to it with headphones. All participant credits, partners and transcript are available through the link to the sound piece.
