Rebecca is a ceramicist and jeweller based in Dunblane. Her work explores the concept of value, elevating seemingly inconsequential everyday things to reflect their hidden value though a process of rematerialisation. Seemingly mundane objects are reimagined in porcelain, gemstones and precious metals to capture the depth of meaning of the simple pleasures that we often overlook in our day to day lives.

The Project

Type of funding accessed: Micro Grant (up to £500)

The Covid crisis has highlighted the reliance that many creative practices currently have on physical gallery settings, and has brought to light the need for Rebecca for a stronger online presence. The closure of galleries and cancellation of events and exhibitions through lockdown reduced the outlets for her work significantly, and she needed support to present her work through her most important remaining outlet, her website. The site needed to be able to function as a curated online space, presenting her work in context, both with narrative style photos that describe the influences, and with lifestyle shots that demonstrate the work’s relationship to the body. The funding has allowed Rebecca to work with photographer Susan Castillo and model Lydia Morrow to create a bold and striking photo story that contextualised her work, maximising the visual impact and memorability on her online presence. The photos were used to upgrade the appearance of Rebecca’s website, and to improve her media presence. Some examples of the work that Rebecca was able to create thanks to the Micro Grant are below.
