Go behind the scenes of the Tolbooth’s music development programme with an all new exhibition showcasing young musicians, such as Moonsoup (pictured above).

Tolbooth Projections will take over the Tolbooth Gallery from Friday 21 May until mid June.

The exhibition follows a successful pilot season in 2019 featuring acts like Sulka, Annie Booth, The Cobalts and Joseph Hewer. As well as a portrait photography series and DIY music making seminars in 2020.

Kenny Bates, from the Tolbooth said: “The central focus of the project is to support and further the careers of the young musicians who learned their craft through the Tolbooth’s workshops, classes and events for young people.

“The series combines young acts who have already gone on to receive critical acclaim, as well as those taking the first tentative steps on their music journey. The aim of the exhibition is to project new talent out into the world and to celebrate the venue’s connection with some of Scotland’s leading new artists.”

The exhibition will feature portraits of four acts – Moonsoup, The Nickajack Men, Cameron Roxburgh, and Katie Allen & Ali MacKenzie created by local photographer Lindsay Forsyth.

Lindsay said: “I love working with other creatives, they always have great ideas for photographs and bring an amazing energy with them. It’s an opportunity to push the boat out and try different styles.

“I wanted to convey how creative the Tolbooth is as a building and how it can inspire anyone who walks through the doors. It was important to capture a few places inside and out rather than keeping to one area, there’s inspiration in every room.”

Live sessions, filmed and recorded in the Tolbooth Recording Studio by local film production company Vivid Affect, will be also be projected on large screens with immersive audio playback to draw you into the performances.

Kenny added: “It’s a great way to get introduced to some of the incredible music being produced by Stirling artists, maybe you’ll find a new favourite act!”

The exhibition is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10-4pm, from 21st May – 11th June. Viewing slots (for up to 6 people from 1 household, or a max of 4 people from 2 households) can be booked on the Stirling Events website.
