HIGH FIVING CREATIVITY
A creative group set up to support the city’s emerging artists is celebrating its fifth birthday with a month long exhibition at Stirling’s Tolbooth.
GOSSIP (Graduate Opportunities Supporting Sustained Independent Practice) Collective was set up in 2017 and has since supported over 225 artists from its Cowane Centre base.
True to the collective’s founding principles, the exhibition includes artwork by up and coming artists from Forth Valley College - the next cohort to join the growing GOSSIP Community - as well as current members.
Over the past five years the collective has held over 30 exhibitions across the region from the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum to Bannockburn House.
GOSSIP artist Jacqueline Scorgie said: “Alongside our birthday exhibition we created a side project called ‘High Five’, where we asked anyone who has experienced GOSSIP to participate in the exhibition by drawing around their hand, writing a celebratory word in the palm and adding a decoration to the piece. These have been collated to create a video piece which has also gone on display in the Tolbooth foyer.”
Continuing the high five theme, local artist Ken Elliott created a unique hand scuplture for the exhibition. Watch how it was created below:
