Pathways Session: Community Justice Grants (open session and Q&A)

An open session to find out more about community justice in Scotland and applying to our grants scheme

About this event

“Community justice is where people who have broken the law are held to account and supported to reconnect and contribute to their communities. Where it is safe to do so, people who commit certain crimes receive community-based sentences. This can include treatment for underlying issues such as drug or alcohol addiction, unpaid work, fines and compensation or restrictions of liberty such as electronic tagging and curfews. The evidence shows community justice can help people stop breaking the law again leading to fewer victims and safer communities.” – Community Justice Scotland. https://communityjustice.scot/

Scene Stirling and Stirling Community Justice Partnership are looking to fund up to 4 small creative projects (up to £500) through a series of ‘community justice’ themed grants.

These are currently open for applications and will be until the 11th of September.

In addition to addressing the Stirling Place Partnership's aims, to qualify for these grants applicants should be able to demonstrate that their project will meet one or more of the following Stirling Community Justice Partnership criteria:

Projects working directly with;

- People with experience of the criminal justice system

- Their families

- Those on the periphery of the criminal justice system

- Witnesses

- Victims

Projects which increase community understanding of community justice.

This online session will be an opportunity to find out more about the grants scheme and most of all to understand better community justice and how this can relate to creative proposals to develop in the Stirling area. We will be joined by Ainya Taylor, Community Planning Officer (Community Justice) for Stirling Council area. Ainya is one of the coordinators based in each local authority area, and is responsible for the Community Justice Partnership, a collective of local and national partners working to support community justice approaches in the area.

Ainya will provide a short presentation on community justice and answer any questions about CJ and how this ties in with any project proposals.

The Scene Stirling team will provide an overview of the available grants scheme and support with any doubts about the application and/or selection process. There will be some time left at the end of the short session for an open Q&A.
