MINI COMMISSIONS CALl OUT FOR CREATIVES
Artists and young people taking part in a drop-in art session as part of the Macrobert’s Community Outreach programme in Fallin in 2017.
Stirling’s Place Partnership project, Scene Stirling is calling on local artists and creatives to put themselves forward for a community arts pilot in Bannockburn and the Eastern villages.
Mini-commissions of £370 are on offer for creative projects that promote social engagement, collaboration and connectivity between artists and local communities.
Programme Coordinator for Scene Stirling, Silvia Sinibaldi said: “We’re looking for artists and creatives to work alongside local residents and our Bannockburn and East Stirling Creative Network steering group to design and run a series of arts projects this spring on the themes of social history, natural landscape and making sense of place.
“The idea behind the initiative is to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of Bannockburn, Plean, Cowie, Fallin and Throsk; whilst promoting their interconnectedness. We want to bring artists and communities together to foster a creative community, encourage collaboration and reduce the perception of the artist as the ‘outsider’. Proposals can be delivered in any art form, as long as the core of the activity is interactive.”
Silvia added: “Our goal is to translate these pilots into larger projects such as an arts trail or travelling exhibition within the East Stirling area. Place is of high importance to this project, so we’d ideally like to work with artists who live or have a strong, demonstrable connection with the East of Stirling area.”
The mini commissions are being funded by the Macrobert Arts Centre. Artistic Director Julie Ellen said: “The idea for the mini commissions sprang out of some lovely, informal chats between local artists and members of the community hosted by Scene Stirling. The level of excitement and enthusiasm on these calls was infectious and it is wonderful that Macrobert can support this germ of creative engagement, helping grow the vibrant local arts scene in the Eastern villages.”
Applications should be sent to hello@scenestirling.com by 5pm on Monday 8 March, with a CV and examples of previous work. Artists should also include a short proposal (no more than 500 words), highlighting what theme/s their idea responds to, and clearly expressing an understanding of the strong community focus of the commission.
