Stirling’s Place Partnership, Scene Stirling, has launched its first community commission. Up to £5000 is now available to invest in arts and culture in Bannockburn, Plean, Cowie, Fallin and Throsk.

Programme Coordinator for Scene Stirling, Silvia Sinibaldi said: “We don’t just want to create a vibrant city centre arts scene; we want to shine a spotlight on the creativity that exists across Stirlingshire with our community commissions.

“Our first opportunity is for Bannockburn and the Eastern villages. We’re looking for artists, creatives, local groups and members of the community living in these areas, or with a local connection, to come together on a joint project to invigorate and energise arts and culture.

“We’ll be providing professional support and investment, but the communities will decide for themselves which direction they’d like to take the project in working alongside our cultural partners.”

Bannockburn and the Eastern Villages have been chosen for their creative potential. Plans are already in place to create a makers’ space within Bannockburn library and community owned Bannockburn House has just run its first major art exhibition with funding from Scene Stirling.

Silvia added: “We feel now is the right time to capture the creative energy that already exists within these communities. This project will help create the right conditions for the local arts and culture scene to blossom as we emerge from lockdown in 2021.

“Whether you’re a local artist or creative interested in working with your community, or a local person looking to create more arts and cultural opportunities on your doorstep, we want to hear from you.”

Scene Stirling is funded by Stirling Council and The National Lottery through Creative Scotland, as part of Creative Scotland’s Place Partnership.

Councillor Chris Kane, Convener of Stirling Council’s Community Planning and Regeneration Committee, said: “Developing and promoting creative partnerships is a great way to enrich the soul of our communities.  This support and investment in creativity provides an excellent opportunity for those with a connection to Bannockburn, Plean, Cowie, Fallin and Throsk to step forward and add something magical to the cultural identity of their community.  I cannot wait to see what wonderful projects are dreamed into reality by this fund.”

A launch event, giving interested artists, creatives, community groups and locals a chance to find out more, will be held on Zoom on Tuesday 15th December 6-7.30pm. To join in please reserve a free ticket on Eventbrite.
