EXPLORING THE WORLD ON OUR DOORSTEP

A new exhibition opens at Tolbooth Stirling today (9 November) showcasing artworks and animations by local young people.

Funded by Creative Scotland, The World Where I Am, runs until 26 November.

Here’s Creative Learning Officer Clare Hoare to tell us more:

For many of us during lockdown, our immediate communities and the natural world around us became increasing more important.

We explored more of our local area, met more people from our immediate community, and spent more time in the natural spaces on our doorstep.

The World Where I Am encouraged groups of young people to continue this connection, and, along with a team of artists, explore how creativity can be harnessed to project this out to the wider world through visual art, animation, photography and sound.

With a focus on outdoor learning, groups learnt how to use field recording equipment, digital cameras and animation software to capture the local natural or urban environments that are significant to them.

The work produced was led and directed by the young people involved, alongside highly skilled participatory arts facilitators, widening creative horizons and encouraging curiosity, creativity and the exploration of uncharted territory.

Participating schools included Allans Primary, East Plean Primary, Ochil House, Millhall and Chartershall. As well as Champs Stirling and local charity Plus.

The project was supported by eight local artists: David Trouton, Jim Stirk, Brian Docherty, Lisa Fleming, Malcy Duff, Ali Robertson, Liam Chapman and Rory Clark.

The World Where I Am runs until 26th November in the Tolbooth Gallery and is a collaboration between local young people, local artists and Stirling Council’s Schools, Learning, Education and Culture Teams.
